The 60th yahrtzeit of the Jewish community of Zator, Poland
was observed by my family on 19 Tammuz 5762. In commemoration
of the anniversary, our family made a siyum of Mishnayos. In an effort to coordinate this project between family and friends in Israel and the United States of America, a web site was set up to allow learners to select mesechtos on-line. At my brother's suggestion, I am making this site available to others. The image on the upper left of the page is of my grandfather, Reb Shlomo Zalman b"r Moshe (Avraham) Abba hy"d who was murdered by Germans on 19 Tammuz 5702 along with other family who were in Zator on 17 Tammuz 5702. The picture was taken in the mid-1930s when the president of Poland visited Zator. The Jewish community came out to honor the president. The full image is of Reb Shlomo Zalman holding the Torah under a chuppah. He is accompanied on his left by the Rav of the town and on his right by an unknown individual. Other members of the community Jew and gentile are also visible in the original photograph. The picture was sent to my great-aunt who came to the United States in the 1910s. My great-aunt gave the picture to my mother when she arrived in the United States in 1946. |
